Jet Blue Flights From Cincinnati to Salt Lake City Utah
At Country Living, we'd been hearing a lot of good things about Salt Lake City. We knew that the city took its name from the Great Salt Lake. That it was the host of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. And that it is home to the Church of Latter Day Saints and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. What we didn't know was how culturally diverse and sophisticated the city had become. So, when Senior Lifestyle Editor Nicole Esposito Polly and Executive Editor Larry Bilotti had a photo shoot in the area, they decided to take advantage of the stopover and spend some time exploring the city. They started off in the Sugar House district, an up-and-coming neighborhood known for its art galleries, coffee houses, restaurants, and home-furnishings stores. It was there, within a one-block radius, that they discovered Sensibly Chic Home, The Green Ant, and Home Again. From there, Nicole and Larry headed downtown toward Temple Square, where a cluster of more traditional antiques shops and the charmingly kitschy Retro Rose reside. Next, the pair drove to Elemente--the granddaddy of the city's consignment stores--and later enjoyed a Friday- evening gallery stroll along Pierpont Avenue. Here's a look at some of Nicole and Larry's favorite finds.
GETTING THERE Most major airlines offer flights into Salt Lake City International Airport. Once you've gotten your bearings, the city's easy-to-navigate grid-pattern layout makes finding your way a snap. Areas such as the Sugar House district, Pierpont Avenue, and Temple Square are great for walking, but you'll need a car to travel from one neighborhood to the other. The good news is that parking spaces are plentiful.
Salt Lake City is known for its microbreweries. At Squatters (801-363-2739), enjoy a pint of Chasing Tail Golden Ale; at Red Rock (801-521-7446), pair the oatmeal stout or amber ale with a wood-fired pizza or rotisserie chicken.
At Cucina Toscana (801-328-DINE), a popular Italian restaurant, owner Valter Nassi welcomes guests as if they were family. Don't miss the homemade gnocchi and ravioli.
Attend a free concert at Brigham Young Historic Park
For lunch, head to the Blue Plate Diner (801-463-1151), where they make a mean cheeseburger. Need a refreshing pick-me-up? Order one of their icy coffee latte shakes.
A 15-minute drive from the airport, the stylish Hotel Monaco in downtown Salt Lake City (800-805-1801) is within walking distance of Temple Square, great restaurants, and shops. Room rates start at $89 per double.

Love metal lunch boxes, ceramic cookie jars, and vintage jewelry? Don't miss Cobwebs in the Sugar House district (801-485-9295). For finer antiques, art, and collectibles, including 18th- and 19th-century European imports, browse the aisles of Salt Lake Antiques (801-322-1273). If it's china you crave, edish (801-486-8282; edish.com)--the popular online source for replacement china--has one of its only two stores in Salt Lake City.
